Dear BABAT Community,

We are one day away from the 39th annual BABAT Conference. As you may know, we reached capacity for this year’s conference in 30 minutes. We were pleased to be able to offer a 1-day limited registration for a few hundred additional attendees, and we are thrilled to have started a live stream option that we hope to grow in the years to come.

Still, many in our community are disappointed to not have the option of full registration for this year’s conference. The number of behavior analysts in Massachusetts is growing rapidly and as Massachusetts’s oldest and largest professional organization for behavior analysts, we feel that it is more important than ever for our community to have the opportunity to come together annually and learn, share our work, inspire each other, reunite, and strengthen our connection.

The BABAT Board of Directors has recognized for several years that we were having increasing difficulty accommodating our members at our annual conference. We have reached out through member surveys and listened to your feedback. UMass Amherst has been our home and making the annual trek to this beautiful Berkshire location seems like a part of our identity. It is certainly a part of our history. The UMass staff have gone out of their way every year to make us feel welcome and to make our growing gathering a great success. We are beyond grateful.

But our organization is…us. It is the connection we share and the professional support we offer each other. BABAT is not a particular location or venue. We are a community. And our growth requires changes and adaptations. I am very excited about the future of our field and particularly the future of behavior analysis in Massachusetts. BABAT is ready to work to meet the challenges of our growing community.

So it is with excitement for our future that I share that the BABAT Conference will be changing venues in October of 2019. We will be moving to the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. Here we will be able to almost double the capacity for attendees, continue to improve our live stream option, accommodate triple the advertising opportunity for businesses, improve our connectivity, and further strengthen our organization. The DCU Center is close to many hotels, bars, and great restaurants. It is close to the newly revitalized Shrewsbury Street and Canal District. The conference center itself is full of professional meeting spaces and ideal layouts. It is a bright and updated venue.

We are already many months into the planning process. The conference will be held a little earlier than usual next year on October 2nd-4th, 2019. The BABAT Board and the BABAT Conference Committee will continue to work hard across the year to ensure a smooth transition. Thank you for your feedback, your patience, and your participation in this organization. We’ll see you in Worcester in 2019!
