In a little less than 1 month (June30th) the deadline for submitting a research proposal to BABAT on environmental sustainability is due. We want to encourage you to submit a proposal for review on this very important topic. As Dr. William Heward (2013) has stated, “The worst harm to the status of a field dedicated to behavior change would be failing to help deal with what may be the most serious behavior problem the world has ever faced.”

The sustainability project you propose can be as basic as increasing recycling in your agency or reducing mileage for staff that travel to your agencies program sites. Please review the suggested readings on the BABAT website at https://babat.org/2017-babat-behavior-change-sustainable-world-research-award/ for ideas and inspiration.

The award winner receives $500, an opportunity to publish preliminary findings in the New England Behavior Analyst, and recognition at the 2017 BABAT Conference, Amherst, MA, October 11-13.

As a behavior analyst your motivation for entering the field was to make the world a better place through the use of applied behavior analysis; let’s accomplish this through a behavior change project intended to improve the environment (See attached flyer for details: sustainability award flyer).

All behavior analysts are eligible to submit a research proposal from students to seasoned professionals so if you know of any students, colleagues, or fellow researchers who might be interested in getting started on some research on environmental sustainability please feel free to forward this email to them.
